Nothing says "I love you" like some Sudafed

Roses are red

Violets are blue

Here's some Valentine's Sudafed for you.

My Valentine is a sicky today. Down and out with a bad cold and a sore throat. Looks like we'll have to take a rain check on our high-rolling Chili's and a movie date. Boo.

That's OK. I'll just do laundry after church this morning. Or take a nap and dream of the days when throats weren't sore and when sunglasses were necessary. =)

"Beat that drum a little louder"

Notes on the 2010 Winter Olympic Games:

The Hubs and I sat down at 7 to catch the opening ceremonies last night. I was all geeked for a fantastic show reminiscent of a Broadway production, only with people dressed up for a blizzard.

Three hours later, all the teams finally made their way to their seats, and I decided to go to bed. I just didn't have it in me to stay up and watch what I had dreamed up to be a fantastic combination of Broadway's The Lion King and the movie Iron Will. But I did make a few mental notes based on the 3 hours I was able to watch without propping my eyelids open.

1) A big inflatable snowboarding hill? Really? I was hoping it was some sort of enormous trampoline the athletes would all somersault down or something. But I did enjoy the Canadian scenery featured in the video previous to the inflatable stunt.

2) Mr. Lauren, why the chunky off white sweater/bulky brown boots/baggy leggings/poofy coat combo? I was loving the moose hat. But not the rest. Not. the. rest. Although, had I seen those boots in junior high, I totally would have bought them. Well, I would have begged my parents to and promised to pay them back with my allowance.

3)Whoa, Nellie. Beat that drum a little louder and make those heels a little higher. Sheesh. How was she walking in those things? Every ounce of my pregnant off-kilter equilibrium admired her balance.

4)Sir flying red tomato, my snowboarding husband explained what your new "double cork" trick will look like. Wowza. I will be tuning in, because I can only imagine how incredible those curly locks will look barrelling through the air at 460 miles per hour doing 18 twists and 2 flips all in one move. I am rooting for you. And so is the Hubs.

5) When I turned on the games today, there were a bunch of women on skis with something tied onto their backs. I asked the Hubs what it was. Because he is my go-to guy for winter sports information. He explained that they were carrying guns on their backs. Down a hill. On skis. What the what?!? Wow. And I thought I had accomplished something walking down the icy driveway with my four-legged mutt to get the mail. I'm impressed. And a little surprised...because who comes up with this stuff?

4 Things

Today I have 4 things on my mind:

1) Thank goodness for friends with daughters who are Girl Scouts. L gave me a verbal slap on the face through the phone after reading this post and proclaimed "Are you nuts? My daughter is a Girl Scout. Pull yourself together and bring some money to the birthday party Saturday." To which I replied, "My dear friend, thank you for loving me despite my crazy, and I will certainly be ordering cookies on Saturday." Cookie crisis officially averted. Thank goodness.

2) Some of the American Idol contestants may be crazy. And group projects are the worst. Especially when it involves singing songs about refrigerators.

3) I can't wait to have this little baby. I went over and visited with a friend of mine and got to meet her sweet 1 1/2 week old last night, and I left thinking, "I think I might actually be able to pull this mom thing off. And it sure will be a lot of fun to get to hold this little guy rather than lug him around in my way-too-big belly." I am SO excited! 9 weeks to go. That sounds like a lot. But I'm telling myself it's not. Because how else am I suppose to make it another 9 weeks?!? There is not enough ice cream in the world to tide me over (is it "tide me over" or "tie me over"? Is that even a real phrase? Sometimes I just make stuff up). So we're sticking with "9 weeks isn't that long. You're almost there." And it feels good.

4) We had a blizzard come in Tuesday night. An "I'm not even going to wash pants for tomorrow because I'm just that sure it will be a snow day" kind of blizzard. So I didn't wash my pants. And it was OK because it was a snow day, and I ended up sleeping most of it away in my PJ's. I only got dressed long enough to visit that fresh little newborn and to go out to eat with the Hubs. In other words, I spent about 98% of the day in the couch in my PJ's and 2% of the day out in the real world. Which made me think about how tired I am of winter this year and how much I miss this:

Camping. Green. Grilling out. The Hubs and his plethora of mismatched summer outfits. Everything. Oh, how much I miss it.

Operation: Samoa

Two days ago the Hubs texted me from work asking what my favorite Girl Scout cookie was. Easy. I was a Brownie in Troop something for a few years back before I discovered how fun it was to just stay home and play Barbies or Littlest Pet Shop and I had never let any Girl Scout cookie come between me and my Samoas.

It took me about 7 texts to effectively tell the hubby I liked "Samoas" on account of they were Samoas and then they changed to Caramel Delights and now they are Samoas again. I figured the torture to my thumbs was worth it if it meant the Hubs would order some Samoas for me. For the two nights following our texting exchange, I have dreamt of nothing but a barn-load of Samoas with maybe some Thin Mints and Tagalongs thrown in.

Tonight, however, my Girl Scout cookie dreams came tumbling down around me.

After dinner, I asked the Hubs: "So, when will the Girl Scout cookies be in?"

Answer: "What are you talking about? I didn't get Girl Scout cookies."

Hmm.

Me: "Yes, Honey. Yes, you did. You texted me two days ago asking about my favorite kind. Remember? Samoas."

Answer: "No. I was just talking to someone at work about them and was trying to remember what kind I like."

[insert crazy pregnancy eyes here, also include the inevitable huffing and puffing that accompanies any pregnancy freak out]

Me: "WHAT?!?!?? YOU DIDN'T ORDER ANY EVEN THOUGH I TEXTED YOU 7 TIMES TO TELL YOU WHICH KIND I WANTED?!?!? ARE YOU NUTS-O?!? YOU HAVE TO GET ME SOME GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! LIKE 5 TO 19 BOXES! I HAVE BEEN DREAMING OF THEM FOR DAYS! WHAT THE WHAT?!?! HOW CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THEM AND NOT GET THEM?!?!?! WHO ARE YOU?!?!??!?!?!?"

Answer: "Whoa. They sell them outside the grocery store a few blocks away. We'll just get them there."

Breathe deeply.

Me: "Oh. Oh, OK. Yeah. I guess they do. Or Wal-Mart. Hmm. But I want like, 5 to 19 boxes."

[insert the Hubs' skeptical "could you bottle up your crazy long enough to at least quote a reasonable amount of boxes" face here]

Me: "No, really. 5 to 19."

This episode of Crazy Pregnancy Lady brought to you by an ex-Brownie Girl Scout who deeply regrets not stock piling a cargo hold full of Samoas back in the day when she had the chance.

Tune in next week for Crazy Pregnancy Lady goes boo-coo when the Valentine's Day chocolate strawberries run out... or worse, never show up in her fridge in the first place.

Our Little Genius

Great idea, Opie.

No really. Great idea. Absolutely brilliant. Let me know how that Nintendo DS complete with pink accessory case feels in your gut about 6 hours from now.

Oh, and by the way, Mama has chomped down all the Tums. So you're up a creek without a paddle if indigestion hits. Just sayin'.

We are so proud of him. So very, very proud.

Mmm...Mmm...Super

Our friends J&L invited us over to watch the Super Bowl at their house this year. I had great intentions of whipping out some seriously good homemade appetizers, but after a busy morning at Church, I decided to forgo the cooking and take a nap. A preggo's gotta do what a preggo's gotta do. I had a master plan in my back pocket- if I stopped by the store on our way over, I could still grab the ingredients for a few appetizers and just heat them up in L's kitchen. So after waking up from my nap, we went to the store on our way out of town. Usually procrastination works out relatively well for me. Its just kinda the way I roll sometimes. Then I realized our little local grocery store didn't have what I needed for the price I wanted. And I began to reconsider the "friend" I had in procrastination. Back-stabber. So I decided to keep it classy and went with this never-failing combo:

I guess that's what happens when you ask the pregnant lady to bring some food.

Good thing L is a champ in the kitchen- she had a smorgasbord of appetizers and goodies for us and even whipped up the sausages I was planning on making with ingredients from her fridge. YUM. On a side note, any time I ask the Hubs to smile for the camera within a 70 foot radius of food, he stuffs something edible in his mouth and then smiles. I've given up taking a Round 2 picture. Ya git what ya git and ya don't throw a fit.

I spent a good part of the night grabbing this little guy and kissing him til his face just about fell off.

He really knew how to work the crowd. After his dinner, we all dug into the appetizers and he made his way up and down the couch begging for some guac with those big blue eyes. What a charmer.

I also found the fact that he appeared to appreciate my Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies rather endearing. Especially after the Hubs shared his preference for popcorn over the Little Debbies. At least somebody thought I made the right choice.

We had a super fun night watching those one guys play those other guys. Just kidding. I know who played. When you are the daughter of a major football fan, you just learn to keep track of those things so as to avoid confrontation. You also learn not to walk in front of the TV screen during the game if you value your hiney or your ears. Important life lessons if you're the offspring of, or marrying, a sports fan, folks. But I really didn't have a lot of stock in the game since my Packers and Cowboys didn't make it. I was there for the food. And the commercials with beavers and violins and cute horses racing their long lost longhorn buddies.

Speaking of beavers and violins, I am taking on the Beast today. More on that later.
