Nap #2

Mission accomplished.

Up in here

Things are getting crazy up in here.

My computer-stupid is showing.

Blogger has fancy new templates that I am trying to use, and before I knew it, pictures were scrambled all over my blog, and now I am wading through a mess of my own stupid.

Technical difficulties.

Things will be looking cute and together again soon.

...I hope.

Come on in, the water's fine!

This afternoon Newbie took his first dip in the pool...

He wasn't real sure how he felt about the water and the squishy bottom of the pool, but he knew he looked stinkin' cute in those swim trunks.

"Is this water sanitary? It looks questionable to me..." ...name that Disney movie and win a sweet prize. For reals.

Following his venture to the water hole, Newbie changed back into his party pants and crashed on the floor of his play gym. Thus far, operation "nap when you want to" has been a rip-roaring success.

Of naps and staycations

Today I am playing the "you don't have to nap if you don't want to" game.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Sorry. Had to get it out of my system.

This week, ALL WEEK, Newbie has taken five to eight 30 minute naps. Its usually at least two hour and a half to two hour naps. But this week, it's been 30 minutes. That's it. 30 minutes. That's long enough for me to find out that Bella is going to face the Volturi, but not long enough for me to find out what Edward is going to do about it. Long enough for me to find 80 reasons why I'm insecure, but not long enough for Beth Moore to tell me how not to be. Every time I lay him down, I just get into a chapter in my book and he wakes up. Heaven knows I'll never bid farewell to my insecurities with Newbie only sleeping in 30 minute stints throughout the day. Beth Moore just keeps getting interrupted.

I took him to the doctor yesterday after debating the price of bringing him in only to have them tell me I'm a hypochondriac (a diagnosis I am already fully aware of) and there is nothing wrong with him. Turns out he did have a stomach bug last week (that explained those few epic diapers) and those suckers hang in there for a couple weeks with babies. Hence, the bad naps and crankiness this week. Poor guy. He's feeling better, just way off schedule now.

So we're rolling with the punches in the nap time department until this bug packs its bags and hits the road. I have told myself he's not going to nap at all. I have to psych myself out so I'm not bummed when I hear Newbie wake up after only 20 minutes of napping. Like a tall and Carolinian friend of the Hubs says, "set low expectations and you'll never be disappointed." Never thought I'd be able to relate to that one, but I'm willing to take it on as my motto in the nap time department this week.

To beat the lack-o-nap time blues, we hit up G-Mama's today for some relaxation and internet access. We may even hit the pool if the mood strikes.

Speaking of the pool, that is one of the many things on our agenda for next week. The Hubs has taken an entire week off of work for a family STAYcation. We're staying local and enjoying time together with our little man for a full 9 days, and I can't wait! We've got a whole dorky list made up of all our vacation hopes and dreams including, but not limited to, a trip to the lake, a trip to the local splash pad, a picnic in the park, a beach day, a movie night, and a fishing trip. So fun. I am really looking forward to having both of my boys around all week.

In other news, I realize Opie has not made the headlines around here in a while. Let me take a moment to say that he is doing exceptionally well after binging on ranch dressing last night. The sneaky stinker hopped up to the table and snagged a good 2 to 9 tablespoons of ranch off the Hubs' dinner plate. He was so stealth about it- we wouldn't have even known if it wasn't for the splatters of evidence all over his eyes and ears following the crime. What. A. Hoser.

Don't look now, but Newbie's eyes are s-l-o-w-l-y closing in the swing next to me. We may just have a napper, folks!

I'll be back later today with pictures...I'm a little low on inventory today because I have been so busy trying to read while Newbie doesn't nap and all. So I'll get on it this afternoon and hollah back later with some new pics.

I wish you and yours good naps and lots of reading time today. =)

Tiny kangaroo down spot

Confession: I have acquired a fondness for these guys.

I know. I KNOW. But I bought their CD in an attempt to play something other than country music for Newbie while we tooled around town, and I fell in love. Anyone who can sing a song about fruit salad is a friend of mine. However, I'm not sure Newbie loves them. While I rocked out to "Hot Potato" and "Captain Feathersword" in the car, he just scowled back at me. And I'm pretty sure I embarrassed him while walking into the grocery store singing "tiny kangaroo down, spot"...mostly because I'm pretty sure those aren't the real words. (It's hard to translate the Australian accent sometimes, so I just roll with it.) Sorry, Newbie, but your mom embarrassing you with a full display of crazy is just going to be par for the course around here, buddy. Your dad will be happy to welcome you to the club.

Hold on, I have to go get a fudgecicle.

There's just something about the summertime that calls for a steady intake of Popsicles, ya know?

So tonight my sister and I are going to a bridal shower honoring the next innocent victim destined to join our husbands' side of the clan. We are excited to have a new cousin join the craziness because now we'll have one more female to commiserate with. There's just only so much camo one can take without a few female counterparts to sympathize with you.

In other news, I am vigorously working on a new schedule for Newbie, on which he has launched a full frontal assault. The child is revolting to my new early bedtime plan with the strength and determination of a thousand men. Kicking and screaming, folks, kicking and screaming. This is what pre-naptime looked like yesterday before the war was waged.

And this is what it looked like after I won- not without losing a few of my appendages first. This little baby is brutal. After the screaming, I wasn't sure I would ever hear the same again. Nor was I sure my heart had ever squeezed so tight. Poor baby. But he finally zonked out and woke up better for it. All a part of my master plan.

Headlining this past weekend's update is the Hubs' most recent shenanigan. At church on Sunday, Newbie filled his britches, and the Hubs offered to go change him, to which I responded with an "Alleluia!" because it's usually me who sneaks out to change 80 diapers over the course of the service.

So the Hubs stepped in as a hero and went out to change Newbie. I told him of a table I stick Newbie on that is tucked away in a corner where nobody has to witness the bio-hazard with their Sunday morning coffee. Unfortunately, I have a poor sense of direction and sent the Hubs to the wrong corner. Due to my poor navigational skills, my husband ventured where no man has been before: THE NURSING ROOM. Oh. My. WORD. In the space of five minutes on a Sunday morning, I had become the wife of the man who walked into the nursing room.

Now, I know my husband well enough to know that he had no idea what he was getting himself into and simply thought the table I had described was the one tucked away in that corner. What he didn't know what that he had walked into the opposite corner on account of my misdirections, and BOY HOWDY WAS HE IN FOR A SURPRISE when he discovered his little changing station to be the home of nursing mothers who are just trying to get away from everyone for one cottonpickingminute while they nurse their newborns. Aye caramaba.

He high-tailed it out of there once he realized where he was and made a smooth recovery. When he got back he told me what happened, and I asked him to please go sit somewhere else or at least change his clothes so nobody would know I was the wife of the man who walked into the nursing corner. Sheeeeesh.

Somebody get me a GPS. Please.

Please.

Play that funky music, white boy

Have I mentioned we love us a good dance party???

Newbie and his G-Mama are big fans of "Soul Sister"...he loves rockin' it out with his G-Mama. =)

Hey, Soul Sister

Sometimes you have to have a dance party...

...and sometimes you have to wear a tutu on each leg because you aren't 4 anymore.

Are these not the cutest girls ever??? I just love them to pieces.

They are every bit as sweet as they look.

And they know how to rock- the heels and the dance floor.

One thing I love about these ladies is that they are full of one-liners...

"Why can Newbie not walk good? Does he needs bigger feets?"

To Newbie and the Hubs: "Come on guys! You wanna come to the dance party??!?"

"I'm just gonna go put 'dis boa on Newbie because he might like it. Then I will be right back."

"I don' think Newbie likes dat cuz it is so wouwd."

"Tonight I want to dream that all of my princess dolls come alive and that all my dreams come true."

Rock on, soul sister.

100 Days

My baby looked like this 100 days ago...

Where has the time gone?!?!?

Rainy with a high of one million

It is a pleasant 1,876 balmy degrees and raining outside, so Newbie and I high-tailed it to some central air conditioning today. You know, so we could cool off...and catch up on The Bachelorette. Priorities.

It feels like Texas today, and I give a big pat-on-the-back to all of you living below the north because I just don't know how you do it. Or how I did it. I just remember a lot of swimsuits and sprinklers when I was a kid. A little Koolaid never hurt, either. I don't think humans were made for this kind of heat. Then I remember there are people living in the desert. And I wonder what they do with their too-hot cranky babies all year?

Speaking of Koolaid, did anyone see Regis and Kelly dye their hair with Koolaid yesterday? Am I the only one that seriously questioned the judgement involved in that move? Somebody is for sure going to come out looking like a grape popsicle. I'm just saying.

Anyway, I can already tell there will be a lot of this today:

Partially because it is too hot to breathe, and partially because Newbie isn't a big fan of The Bachelorette anyway and will probably opt to sleep in order to get out of having to take part in my marathon today.

Question: Does this make me a dork?

Question: Does the fact that I love it and don't care if it's dorky make me a super dork?

The Hubs would say hands-down DORK. But he also thinks I'm a nut case for watching The Bachelorette and for eating Lucky Charms while watching Losing it with Jillian Micheals, so he's clearly not the most accurate source of judgement. Clearly.

On another note, tonight I've got a girls' night with these sweet little ladies, and I just can't wait.

I'm thinking beauty shop and some serious Barbie time since the boys in my house aren't big fans of either and a girl needs her fix. I'm still mourning the fact that Newbie will never be able to appreciate the sheer joy of The American Girl Place in Chicago. *tear*

Our double date night last week was a blast- we had a ball. Enjoying a beef enchilada sans performing a baby diaper change was a much needed indulgence. But I did miss my little man by the time it was all said and done, and I was so happy to see his sweet face when we got home. Pictures to come if I can ever download them or haul myself to the store to burn them to a disc.

Well, duty calls...several episodes need watching and there's some lemonade in the fridge that needs drinking. I wish you all a happy and air-conditioned weekend!

Forget raindrops on roses...

These are two of my favorite things:

I'd also like to add that when you see a picture of yourself like this:

you really start to question your mental stability...because who does that in public?!?
The End.

Happy summer!

Newbie Fix

Raise your hand if you have a hankerin' for some cute Newbie pics!

You're welcome. =)

El Mercado

English Translation: "the market"

We went to the farmer's market this morning and had so much fun. I feel so domesticated picking out fresh green beans and peaches.

Seeing all the homegrown produce makes me want to plant a garden, but I have this thing about the soil in our backyard. We live in the city. I just wonder what is lurking beneath the grass...I mean, when you have random people's trash floating into your yard, it kinda makes you wonder what's below the surface. Something about city dirt just gives me the creeps. I don't want to be eating city dirt tomatoes. All the more reason to move out to the country one of these days. I really am a country mouse.

Right now this country mouse has to get going...it's rib night at G-Mama and G-Daddy's house tonight. And all the people said, "WOOHOO!!!"
