This morning Mama whipped out a blankie for Newbie on the sewing machine. I used a slice of fabric that I had stashed away, and made sure there was enough leftover to make three more back-up blankies in the event of an emergency. When it comes to blankies, you can never be too prepared.
I thought about going fancy and shopping on Etsy or making a mini-quilt for him to use, but I finally decided to keep it simple with a bit of cotton flannel sprinkled with puppies, his very favorite.
The blankie I had as a little girl was just a piece of lightweight calico cotton fabric hemmed around the edge, and it was an essential snuggle buddy at bedtime. It came with me on a billion adventures, and once I got a little older, it sat by the pillow on my bed and watched hours and hours of my sister and I playing Barbies and Littlest Pet Shop.
A blankie is kinda like a best friend, and I wanted Newbie to have one.
He has a bundle of blankies, but hasn't attached himself to any specific one, and in an effort to get him sleeping through the night again, I decided he needed a go-to blankie for bedtime.
So I hereby declare this THE BLANKIE.
It will follow him to naptime and to bedtime and on any adventures that requires the companionship of a snuggly blankie.
And we will all sleep happily ever after.
The end.
