The Skies

This afternoon we were bored with to-do lists and our four walls, so we followed a whim and decided to drive out to Lake Michigan.  I had never been to Lake Michigan in the winter, so I was looking forward to a fun family adventure. We bundled up from head to toe and loaded Newbie and Opie up in to the car. You got that right: the entire circus came along for the ride. We are nothing if not ambitious when weekending. Can you find Newbie and Opie in the picture?

As we piled out of the car donned in various assortments of our winter garb, a friendly beach-goer took our photograph.  I like friendly beach-goers, but the look on Newbie's face suggests he wasn't the biggest fan. =)

What happened next, I will remember forever

As we turned to face the beach, the view was absolutely breath-taking.  Waves waltzing to shore were frozen in place.  Sand danced a tango with beautiful, sparkling ice and snow beneath our feet.   And the sky, the sky stretched for miles in the most brilliant blue across the greatest expanse of frozen water I've ever seen.
Right there, smack dab in the middle of a February Saturday, we experienced a depth and beauty of Creation that I didn't even know existed.

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Psalm 19:1
We spent the afternoon reveling in the work of His hands...
It was such an incredible afternoon.  Newbie was a popsicle by the time we made our way back to the car, but he loved every minute of it.  He was laughing at Opie, and his head was turning from side to side the entire time, just taking in the glorious view. If you live nearby and haven't made it out to the lake this winter, it is well worth the trip!  Just bundle up....that sunshine doesn't feel the same in February as it does in June. =)

Wishing you a happy Sunday, Friends!
