I've got answers. I've fallen behind the blogging wagon this week, but its all because we've been so busy having FUN! Its amazing how busy my days get, and updating the blog has become even more difficult because Newbie has learned how to swivel the computer chair away from the computer and towards him and the rest of the play room while I'm in it. So I've come to realize that most of my blogging is going to have to be done at naptime or bedtime from now on. When my boy is grabbing the chair and asking to play "buh ball" (read: football) I have no choice but to click off the computer and oblige because he. is. too. cute. and after all, babies don't keep!
Which is proved by the fact that he is already filling out the 18 month footie pj's we got him SEVEN days ago. Wowzers.
In an effort to drink up every last drop of toddlerhood, we've been doing all kinds of fun stuff and introducing Newbie to all sorts of new adventures. Sometimes the fun stuff is helping Momma unload the dryer, and sometimes the new adventure is parading around the house with a spoon and an empty oatmeal cylinder, but we count it all fun when you toss in some chubby cheeks, eager eyes, and a belly laugh that will take your breath away.
Little boys are just so much fun!
Fun Stop #1:
Friday morning we hit up the Children's Museum with Miss L and her two boys. This was Newbie's first trip to the museum, and he was ALL over that joint. It was such a joy to watch him run around from one thing to the next, even if it did mean me and Miss L didn't get a lot of time to sit and chat. We were busy chasing kiddos through a maze of bubbles and mirrors and sandboxes all morning, but had a blast doing it.
(Grandad has Newbie hooked on cars. Newbie points to the keys at home and says "yeep! yeep! peeeeeas!" Translation: Jeep! Jeep! Please?! He gets to turn on the radio and the windshield wipers and the honk the horn on my dad's Jeep Wrangler in the garage when he goes to G-Mama and Grandad's house...which explains the begging for car keys at home and his enthusiasm when we found this car at the museum!)

Speaking of football...
Fun Stop #2:
We have three football games on our hit list this fall, and Friday night brought Round 2 for our hometown high school football game. As he was when we went to his daddy's old school, Newbie was TOTALLY diggin' it. He loved the band, he loved the caramel apple sucker (classic high school football game treat!), he loved the cheering, the football, the fans- my boy was in his element. Earlier that day, before we even had breakfast, he had been stomping around my bedroom with his football calling plays and throwing the ball to himself in the mirror. ...I think a love for the game might be in his blood.

(Corndog and I did some reminiscing while sitting together in the stands. It wasn't too long ago we were sitting in the same spot as high schoolers dreaming of someday. My senior year at the Homecoming game circa fall 2003...
Being there with our husbands and Newbie was really a full circle moment for us. We toasted the moment with caramel apple suckers. Cheers!)
(Newbie is not the fourth quarter's biggest fan. Especially when its chilly and late...and we've run out of caramel apple suckers.)
The icing on the cake at the game was running into a family friend we haven't seen for years. We went to the same church as her and her family church years ago, and she mentored me as a sixth grader through our church. It was fun running into her and getting some time to catch up. (Hi, and hugs to Mrs. H and family!!!)
Saturday we had a really low-keyed day, but we made up for it that evening when Newbie had a little sleepover at G-Mama and Grandad's while the Hubs and I had a night out with Aunt Corndog and Uncle J. I have no pictures to show for it, but we hit Mongolian BBQ like it was our last meal- we're talkin' multiple trips to the grill and salad bar. Newbie showed up at church this morning with a big smile and a new football jersey. No doubt good times were had by all!
Fun Stop #4:
After a phenomenal kick off to a new series on Revelation at church (Seriously: phenomenal. Like three pages of notes and hand cramps and can't wait for next week kind of good. You can catch it online if you're interested! Email me if you'd like the details), my little fam hit up the gardens for a picnic lunch. Newbie always enjoys exploring the gardens, and the enormous pumpkins scattered throughout the paths and gardens made it even more fun this time. The Hubs tucked a football into the wagon before we left the parking lot, and he and Newbie cranked out a few plays after lunch before we ventured too far.

(This is a Newbie classic caught in action: he gets overly excited about his throw and the ball sneaks out the back on his wind up- he follows through with the throw and looks around afterward wondering what happened to the ball. It cracks me up every time!)
(This is what I do 50% of the time the boys are playing football- sit and snap pics. The other 50% I'm out there with them yelling, "RED FORTY TWO! BLUE TWENTY THREE! PINK FLAMINGO ON FLAMBAE! HUT HUT ! When it comes to football, what I lack in know-how I make up for with great enthusiasm.)

(Shout out to Mutte and Great-Grandad...Newbie can't wait to get out to the meadow to see the moo-cows...he was fascinated by this one!)
(This is what its like taking posed pictures with a toddler at naptime. Baby protesting. Momma protesting. It's a beautiful thing. You really have to admire Newbie's sling-shot fling-back move. Just look at that flexibility. Its like the kid's got a spine made of rubber.)

Cute post! Looks like you guys are kicking off the fall right! Are those huge pumpkins at the gardens??? We havn't been in a few weeks but if that is what they are now hosting it is totally time for a trip!
