Claaaaaaaassic B

Every now and then I get a burst of crafty rebellion.  Yesterday was one of those now and thens.

Sunday I had casually mentioned to the Hubs that I had plans to paint a chalkboard on one of our doors.  I pulled the classic "tell them its way worse than it really is, so when you tell them what it really is, they are relieved that it isn't as bad as it could have been."

Oh, that's not a classic?  Well, it is at my house.

For example, if I want McDonald's for dinner when we weren't planning on going out, I might say to the Hubs, "Man, you know what sounds really good for dinner?  A number 12 platter at the most expensive Chinese food restaurant in town." Then his eyes will go GA-GA and I'll say, "Oh, not really.  Let's just go to McDonald's instead."  Then he'll sigh with relief and we'll go out to dinner.  Works like a charm.  He's not stupid; he knows what just happened.  It's just that no one can fight the sudden sense of relief that comes with the second option.  So we do it. Because the sense of relief is just THAT powerful.  It's kinda like Jasper Cullen's special power to make everyone in a room feel the way he wants them to.  Except I use it for fast food and clothing and interior decorating situations. You know, the important stuff.

So Sunday I say to the Hubs, "Honey, you know what I'm gonna do this week?  I'm gonna paint the kitchen door and make it a chalkboard.  Top to bottom." Then his eyes went GA-GA and I said, "Oh, not really.  I'm actually just going to paint the pantry door and make it a chalkboard."  Then he sighed with relief and approved because the pantry door is a lot smaller than the kitchen door.  See?  Works like a charm.  WHAMMY!

I had to work fast because the sense of relief doesn't last forever.  Sooner or later it wears off, and the Hubs comes to his senses and vetoes my crazy plans.  So yesterday I whipped out a chalkboard pantry door.

And I love it.

My only concern is that I got a little over zealous and wrote on it too soon, and the chalk may never come off.  That, and I'm slightly regretting posting our weekly dinner menu and revealing what glamorous cuisine selections we have planned for this week. Just keepin' it real, folks.

On another note, Newbie and I took pictures of our slew of pumpkins and gourds this morning.  He was REALLY into the corn stalks.  Holey moley.  He would have eaten every one of them if he coulda squirmed around a little bit more in his Bumbo seat.

I'm off to do some baby food research.  Newbie is moving up in the world and will be expanding his experience beyond rice cereal and milk in the next couple weeks.  I have to figure out what to make for him since I'm pretty sure King Ranch Chicken and Tacos aren't on the approved list of first baby foods.

Hope you have a terrific Tuesday filled with plans to make something more exciting than pizza for dinner!

  1. Love this post! And I'm sure I have a special appreciation for it 1.) because I share an obsessive love for chalkboard paint, and 2.) that I saw this chalkboard pantry in person today! LOVE it! Get those bistro markers... you're gonna love them! There's still something so charming about good ol' chalk that breaks and crumbles too! :)
